What is the difference between Office 2019 (one-time purchase) and Office 365 (subscription)?
Office 2019 is a one-time purchase and does not receive feature updates after purchase. Office 2019 includes a subset of features found in Office 365, but it isn’t part of Office 365. Office 2019 will receive quality and security patch updates as required.Office 365 is the user-based subscription service powered by the Microsoft cloud. It includes the most collaborative, secure, and up-to-date features.
Is internet access required for Office 365?
Internet access is required to download and activate Office 365.You should also connect to the internet regularly (e.g. at least once a month) to keep your version of Office up-to-date and benefit from automatic quality and security updates. If you don’t connect to the internet, Office will prompt you to go online. If you still don’t connect, your applications will go into view-only mode. This means that you can view or print your documents but can’t edit the documents or create new ones. To reactivate your Office applications, simply reconnect to the internet. Internet access will also be needed to manage your Office 365 account - for example, to change payment options or to access documents stored on OneDrive.
Can people using older Office versions open documents I created using Office 365 or Office 2016?
People using Office 2016, 2013, 2010, and 2007 as well as Office for Mac 2011 and 2008 will be able to open and view your documents, but those on earlier versions may need to install a compatibility pack.
What happens to my documents if I cancel or end my Office 365 subscription?
Documents that you have created or copied from others fully belong to you, and you can save them locally like on your PC or Mac, and/or store them online via a cloud service like OneDrive. Once your subscription expires, your Office apps enter read-only mode, which means you can still view or print documents, but you can't create or edit them.
